"SLIME CITY:" A Trip to Jeremy Scott's S/S 2017 NYFW Presentation
Jeremy Scott unveiled his Spring/Summer 2017 collection under the title “Slime City.” This was a line in-part inspired by the hit 2000’s U.S. kid's television show, Slime Time Live; as well as Scott’s various studies in the “seedy” 1980’s New York downtown culture. The line featured a darker colour palette and a nostalgic fascination with space futurism. It playfully combined notions of adolescence with bold theatrics and unapologetic sex appeal—all in quintessential Jeremy Scott fashion.
The line featured crop-tops, mini-dresses, leather pants, cutouts of all kinds, and arguably suggestive trench coats. “Rated X,” “hot hot hot” and images of fishnet-adorned legs were proudly plastered across the pieces. Pins, zippers and metal rings adorned bras, necklines and hemlines. The colour black dominated, but not without bursts of neon and hot pink. There was an emphasis on geometric shapes, and sequins abound. Scott also chose toothpaste as this season's subject for his iconic statement pieces.
Among others, Sita Bellan, Paris & Nicky Hilton, Terry Richardson, Kelly Osborne and Jussie Smollet graced the front row. Longchamp bags and Beauty Waters by Sakara Life were the goodies of choice. The event was a success in the sense that it was a pure expression of Jeremy Scott’s vision: drama, aesthetics and fun.
