Novelist and New Future London are taking over Selfridges
As part of Selfridges "Shakespeare ReCITED", a celebration of Shakespeare's 400th anniversary in which high profile and inspirational artists take to the mic to give a new spin on the bard's work, Novelist and New Future London are teaming up to do their bit. Following on from the likes of Liam Hodges, Preditah, Rejjie Snow and James Massiah, the latest pairing will take to the department store's stage tomorrow evening (12 August).
19 year-old Novelist will be exploring the idea of language and slang, communication and creation, during his evening in The reFASHIONed Theatre. Hoping to open up a discussion, Novelist will be exploring how today's modern-day laureates approach the English language and influence their followers.
Joining Novelist will be school friends Rhys Dawney and Gareth Emmett, who founded East London based brand New Future London hoping to inject some fun and colour to “the sea of clothing that was all really dark and moody and all black and white”. Taking inspiration from Nineties hip hop and the unrivalled rave cultures, their collections are relevant to Novelist. Their collection is made up of accessories, T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies, with prices starting at £30 for a cap to £85 for sweatpants. Best bit? All proceeds will go to Marsha Phoenix, a Supported Housing project in south London for young women aged 16-25, where Novelist’s mum once went and now works.
So what're you waiting for? Get yourself down to the event tomorrow evening at Selfridges, Oxford Street from 7-9pm. Remember though, this is a ticketed event so head to selfridges.com/recited for more information.
See you down there.
