MAN SS17 - Charles Jeffrey, LOVERBOY
Grooming by American Crew and Revlon
'We’re pushing ourselves. This sense of us learning new things – I think it’s both implicit in the move-on this season, and explicit in that it’s kind of become the concept itself.'
Strewn with fresh-cut flowers and pure white sand, the runway for Charles Jeffrey's SS17 LOVERBOY collection appeared as an altar. In a heady mix of the deliberate vs. the accidental, the sombre vs. the comedic his aesthetic was elevated and his characters are re-born fully formed.
Anchored by the LOVERBOY club night and art space at Vogue Fabrics, Jeffrey's design is inspired by the gender-queer, hyper-creatives that have become part of his world. Taking iconic couture as a starting point, his show celebrated a drama and a sense of character that harks back to the true dawn of menswear. Heavy-lidded models stepped out with oil-slicked hair reminiscent of Otto Dix' Sylvia von Halle alongside the trenchcoat silhouettes of Candy Darling. Trailing out to the toll of a church bell, each look appeared complete and perfectly curated.
